KMax Entertainment Interview: 800 000 New Fans in One Year

Here’s a Q&A with Noush Skaugen, a rock artist from LA. She used social media, specifically twitter to get 800 000 follower’s in one year! 2 months ago when I first contacted her she had 500 000 followers… this woman is moving!!
This is proof to the point that independent musicians have SO much control & opportunity to really build an incredible career. It’s all about getting creative, taking a calculated “risk” and finding ways to break through.

Iain Watt’s Blog: Exclusive Interview with Noush Skaugen
September 18, 2009via http://iainwatt.wordpress.com/
I first encountered Noush Skaugen on Twitter. She began following me, which initially I found odd, but cool – very rarely does a “recognised” artist follow me first! Through each tweet, I grew more interested in her work, and realized that this was perfect online marketing. Once she released her album for free, I knew I really wanted to get it and listen. And I was very impressed. Intrigued, I asked if she would have time to give an interview, and she accepted! So, here is the interview with Twitter sensation Noush Skaugen.
Tuned-Out Review of ‘Lost and Found’
April 25, 2009
I wanted to start this review off by drawing attention to the opening song Adeline. It’s important to understand that Noush has substance in her creative vision. She’s a confident singer who doesn’t need to over do it with ridiculous runs flexing her vocal muscle. The song leaves enough open to interpretation so the listener can allow it to become personal to them.
Her vocal style has a little Joan Jett and Mick Jagger influence. She must write lyrics constantly, because her songs always have a specific theme and don’t stray from the topic. I would love to know the story behind these songs. One can’t help but wonder after listening to Goodbye or See Clearly if these songs weren’t written from past experience. Musically, I get the feeling that studio musicians were too involved in that process. It sounds over polished and rigid. Don’t get me wrong, I love Adeline and Wake Up. Those were my two fave tracks from this album. However, I’ve heard Noush playing on her couch – just her and an acoustic guitar and you get so much more feeling from that couch session than you do on this studio recording. That is the reason why I must encourage you to not judge Noush solely on the studio record, but go and see her live.
I do want to challenge Noush to rock out more. Wake up was a great departure from the rest of the tracks and you seem like you’re holding back on the rest. Flex your muscles!! You’ve got a powerful voice!
I’ll post tour dates once I know them from time to time.

‘Skaugen Pens Songs That Pulse With Passion’ – Performing Songwriter Magazine
March 3, 2009
“Let’s take a moment / Find the right words to say.” The contemplative lyrics from Noush Skaugen’s single “Adeline” prove a self-fulfilling prophecy on her very personal debut, Lost and Found. The British singer-songwriter, who has garnered accolades for her musicianship (she’s proficient on flute, piano and sax), recalls Natalie Merchant vocally but employs a more aggressive sound on these 12 tracks recorded in Nashville.
Skaugen pens songs that pulse with passion. The stunner, “Not Gonna Give You the Satisfaction,” drives with a commercial pop/rock appeal and strong lyrical resolve that radio programmers gravitate toward, if Pink and Katy Perry’s successes are any indication. “Beautifulize” opens with a hooky, electric riff that whets the appetite for more rockin’ tracks mid-album.
Like a pro, Noush dials back the intensity on cuts such as “Let You Go” then ratchets it up again in closing with “One Last Time,” which builds from a sweet guitar intro into a sweeping power-ballad chorus, layered with lots of moody aural atmosphere. —LCB

‘Lost & Found is a pop-rock score!’ – Awaken Music Magazine
March 3, 2009
Noush Skaugen is a pure pop talent we’ll all be hearing from in the near future (at least that’s my best guess). She’s already getting ample regional acclaim, but the national scene is sure to catch on soon. Her most recent album, Lost & Found is a pop-rock score!
With catchy and singable tracks like Beautifulize and Not Gonna Give You the Satisfaction, her thick, pop-perfected melodies will remain in your head for days. The production of these songs doesn’t hurt either. They’re sonically accute, placing each instrument exactly where it belongs.
Other tracks such as See Clearly, give the pop-rocker a more atmospheric and spacious quality, while tracks like Let You Go, features her ability to write soft, mellow, sorrowful tunes, all the while remaining intensely simple.
All in all, her album is win. Catch a show and pick up Lost & Found in the very near future!
